133 miles is the full Kerry Way loop from Killarney, and 9 walking days keeps stages at 12 to 18 miles. It is waymarked with black and yellow posts and uses lanes, bog road and mountain passes. Callum Reid in our studio times each stage to bus points because ring-road traffic shapes pickup options.
133 Miles Works Best as 9 Walking Days

133 miles over 9 days averages 14.7 miles per day, with the longest at 18 miles. Days 1 to 3 run Killarney to Black Valley to Glencar at 12 to 15 miles. Days 6 to 8 cross the Waterville to Caherdaniel coast at 14 to 17 miles.
18 miles is the ceiling, placed on the flat Waterville to Caherdaniel shore road. You walk it in 7 to 8 hours. We never place 18 miles on a mountain-pass day.
3 Passes Carry the Hardest Climbing
3 passes define the effort: Windy Gap at 350 meters, Beenkeragh approach at 400 meters and the Lack Road saddle at 300 meters. Total ascent runs 400 to 650 meters on pass days. You need boots with ankle hold for the rocky descents.
650 meters is the maximum single-day ascent on our standard split. The bog sections add time rather than height. We route luggage by road around all 3 passes, so you carry only a day pack.

9 Nights Cost 1,050 to 1,350 GBP in 2026
1,050 to 1,350 GBP per person is the 2026 range for 9 nights with en suite rooms and daily luggage moves. Small B and Bs charge 95 to 125 GBP per room. Single supplements run 380 to 520 GBP for the full loop.
| Stage | Section | Miles |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Killarney to Black Valley | 13 |
| 2 | Black Valley to Glencar | 15 |
| 3 | Glencar to Glenbeigh | 12 |
| 4 | Glenbeigh to Cahersiveen | 16 |
| 5 | Cahersiveen to Waterville | 14 |
14 miles is the median stage in the first half shown above. You get a rest option at Glenbeigh or Waterville. We price rest-day holds at 60 to 90 GBP per room.
2 Bus Lines Back Up the Southern Half
2 bus lines cover the southern half with 2 to 4 departures per day in summer. They connect Cahersiveen, Waterville, Caherdaniel and Kenmare. Taxis fill the gaps at 20 to 45 GBP per hop.
45 GBP is the longest backup hop we plan, from Black Valley road end to Killarney. You call the number on your card and wait 30 to 60 minutes. We preload both bus and taxi options per stage.
8 Weeks Is the Summer Booking Lead Time
8 weeks is the lead time we advise for July and August Kerry Way beds. Villages have 15 to 40 rooms each and coach groups block midweek dates. May and September need 4 weeks in most years.
2 business days is our time to send a stage draft with named B and Bs. Callum Reid checks pass conditions and bus timetables before sign-off. You get GPX, a pass-weather card and a pub dinner sheet.
